Maddie and the Mighty Spark

A young girl with blonde hair in pigtails holding three apples in an apple orchard.

Inspired by life with VLCAD deficiency, Maddie and the Mighty Spark was written to help raise awareness about VLCAD deficiency and other fatty acid oxidation disorders, while celebrating the strength and resilience of children who live with them every day. The story encourages meaningful conversations, builds confidence, and reminds children that their spark is what makes them extraordinary.

All proceeds from the book support Dr. Jerry Vockley’s research at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, focused on VLCAD and related fatty acid oxidation disorders.
